How do editors of The New York Times Book Review choose the annual 10 Best Books list? Which fiction and nonfiction works will make the cut this year, and why?

This year, Times subscribers will be the first to find out.

On the morning of Nov. 30, before the list is published, the Book Review will announce this year’s 10 Best Books list in a virtual event just for subscribers.

The event will begin with a welcome from a special guest, followed by an inside look from the Book Review editor Pamela Paul on the yearlong process of determining the list.

The editors Gal Beckerman, Lauren Christensen, Greg Cowles, Emily Eakin, Elisabeth Egan, MJ Franklin, Tina Jordan, Dave Kim and John Williams will announce and discuss this year’s selections. They’ll also share some of their own personal favorites that didn’t make the cut.

Finally, subscribers will be invited to join Book Review editors and fellow book lovers in a Zoom after-party to share and debate their own favorite books of 2021.

This event is part of The Times’s virtual event series that’s just for subscribers. We hope you’ll join us.
